MEZZA LUNA OFFERS REAL ITALIAN DISHES
Mezza Luna Pasta & Seafood restaurant in Smyrna brings the cuisine of the Lazio region of Italy with home-made pastas and sauces. The new owners, Tony Strangolagalli and Luigi Tartaglione, bring great authenticity to Atlanta.
Located at 1669 Spring Road (across from Rev Coffee), Mezza Luna opened in April and Tony & Luigi took over the management in September, adding Pugliese cuisine.
Luigi has recently moved from Rome, Italy, where he worked in "Caveau," one of the most exclusive restaurants in the capital. He brought to Atlanta delicious traditional recipes from which he developed a personal style. Also born in Ceccano, Lazio, Tony came to the U.S. at a young age and lived in Long Island, NY, for 38 years. In 2011, he moved to Cumming, GA, and opened a restaurant called "Mia Ristorante Italiano." There, he met chef Luigi and, after a couple of years, the two decided to go out on their own. "This is our taste of the Puglisi region of Italy," Tony said. "We added a little spark to what it already was. These are the more traditional dishes of Rome. We are actually Italian and want to introduce the real Italian cuisine to Smyrna."
Everything is fresh, as pastas and sauces are homemade. Luigi provides different specials each night and will even take requests. "There's nothing he can't do," Tony said.
The restaurant is cozy and Tony doesn't want to get too big. "You can concentrate on the food and service in a smaller place," he said.
The weekend is highlighted with an artist singing the music of Frank Sinatra on Friday nights and an Italian accordionist on Saturday night. "This is the music of Italy," he said.
"If you want some good Italian food, come to my place," Tony said.
Mezza Luna is open Monday through Sunday, serving lunch and dinner. Beer and wine is available, including several Italian wines, as well as domestic. The restaurant can seat groups of 20 to 25. For more information call 770-319-0333.
